Our favorite blue blur has been with us for a while, but if you Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka what year was “the biggest year in Sonic history”, he’d say – 2022.

Speaking in a developer round-up article in Famitsu, Iizuka talked about different multimedia projects featuring the popular hedgehog and his friends. This includes Paramount Pictures’ highly successful sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2, retro bundle Sonic Origins, and the new Netflix animated series Sonic Prime among other things.

Following the huge interest in Sega’s mascot, Iizuka adds that Sonic Team is still not done with the series and he hopes they will continue the wave of new multimedia endeavors well into 2023 and beyond. And indeed, they intend to build upon everything that was achieved in the series so far:

“We are preparing a second wave to keep the fans happy and maintain that momentum going into 2023,” notes Iizuka. “We already announced additional content for Sonic Frontiers, but there is a lot more outside of that, so please look forward to it.”

Sonic Origins and Sonic Frontiers are available now on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Sonic  Prime is also available to watch as a Netflix exclusive.
