Sony and Tencent collectively acquire 30% of FromSoftware
Acquisition of the decade, potentially.
By Milos
Many industry acquisitions have been happening recently, and the latest one in line sees Japan’s Sony Interactive Entertainment and the Chinese conglomerate Tencent collectively buying over 30% of controlling stocks of FromSoftware and this move has been confirmed by the FromSoftware parent Kadokawa Group.
Tencent subsidiary Sixjoy Hong Kong will be taking ownership of 16.25% of the purchased shares, while SIE will take the remaining 14.69%. Kadokawa Group will still be the main shareholder in FromSoftware, though, owning a huge 69.66% of the controlling stock. The deal is expected to close on September 7, 2022.
Looking forward to seeing what this acquisition will mean for gaming as a whole. I am seriously hyped!
