Survival city-builder Against the Storm is leaving Early Access on December 8
The rain is coming...yet again.
Hooded Horse have announced that Eremite Games’ survival city-builder, Against the Storm, is leaving Early Access on December 8th. They’ve also revealed that the game will be available as a part of the Game Pass.
What we have here is a city-building game where you find yourself in the heart of a forest, tasked with establishing a settlement before earning the ire of the world's monarch. Your objective is to obtain enough reputation points to successfully complete the expedition. Once you do that, your triumph will be met with meta-resources that can be utilized to advance through the technology tree.
It can be categorized as a roguelite city-builder, although I hesitate to suggest simplicity, as Against the Storm is anything but simple. It's almost an anti-SimCity in nature. While SimCity is praised for its open-ended design and the absence of a final goal, Against the Storm urges you to quickly establish a functional settlement. Once you've gained a sense of control and functionality, the game challenges you to repeat the process under different circumstances.
To maintain engagement, you progress through levels, unlock additional buildings and technologies, and have the option to increase the difficulty for more rewarding outcomes once you feel confident in your skills. It might not be a game you'll complete in a weekend, but it provides a compelling incentive to return for more.
Against the Storm launched in Early Access 2022 and it has been getting steady updates ever since. I am very much looking forward to the full release!
Against the Storm is now available on PC via Early Access. The full release is set for December 8, 2023. It will be available on PC Game Pass as well.
