The Wrath of the Lich King expansion was (arguably) the peak of World of the Warcraft, and for many WoW veterans, the best WoW expansion to date. Nonetheless, “show must goes on” as they say, and now Blizzard announced that Classic players can expect the next expansion (Cataclysm) to launch in 2024. Yep….the expansion that started the decline of the MMO titan.
Similar to previous updates in WoW Classic, Cataclysm Classic will not faithfully replicate the exact experience of the original expansion from 2010. Instead, it will incorporate "feedback" from the community, along with various quality-of-life improvements. Additional details regarding these changes will be provided during the course of BlizzCon 2023.
The release timeframe for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic is slated for the "first half of 2024."

Blizzard have also unveiled World of Warcraft Classic: Season of Discovery, set to launch on November 30. In this new season, Blizzard teased unconventional twists on the typical WoW formula, such as the concept of a "tanking Warlock" and a "Mage healer." The season will begin with a level cap of 25, offering a unique "level 25 endgame," complete with a 25-person Blackfathom raid. Subsequently, the level cap will be periodically raised every few months to keep the adventure going.
Blizzard also announced that the Season of Discovery will introduce a novel Rune and Rune-Engraving system. Players will get to explore the world to uncover special runes that grant access to new abilities, some of which have never been seen in WoW Classic before. These runes can be strategically applied through rune-engraving, allowing players to swap out abilities when out of combat, thus enabling the creation of new character builds.
Besides the introduction of new raids, each level-cap region will serve as a backdrop for various world PvP events. For instance, the Level 25 PvP area will be centered in Ashenvale.
Looking forward to resuming my Classic adventures. Take my money Blizzard you did it again!
