Even though Gameloft’s Disney Dreamlight Valley was initially supposed to be a free-to-play title, it appears that won’t be the case after all.

For those unfamiliar, Dreamlight Valley can be described as “Disney meets Animal Crossing”. The game entered Early Access back in September and people could get in just by purchasing a Founder’s Pack. Each of the packs includes some cosmetic items and varying amounts of Moonstones, which is the premium currency of the game.

The game is set to launch on December 5, and ahead of launch, Gameloft announced that they no longer have free-to-play plans for the game. As they said: “As we look ahead to the official launch, with the learnings we’ve gained from Early Access, we’ve made the decision to remain a paid game for the foreseeable future”.

As it stands now, you can get your access to Dreamlight Valley by buying one of the Founder’s Packs. When the game launches in December, it will be available in three different editions.

I didn’t see this move coming from Gameloft and it’ll be interesting to see how it will play out on the game’s longevity. We should find out more during the upcoming showcase which is scheduled for November 1 on Twitch, Facebook, and YouTube at 1:00 PM Eastern Time.

Disney Dreamlight Valley is coming to Xbox, PlayStation, and PC on December 5.
