Obscure Japan-exclusive Spica Adventure is coming to the West in 2024
A modern port is on the horizon.
Taito and Inin have announced that a port of the 2005 arcade title, Spica Adventure, is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox One at some point in Spring 2024.
If you haven’t heard of Spica Adventure, don’t worry, you are not alone. It’s not surprising at all as the game was only released in Japan back in 2005 and folks outside Asia had no way to access it. The game is a twee sidescroller and it can be considered a spiritual successor to Parasol Stars: The Story of Bubble Bobble III. You get to play as Nico, a guy who uses his magical umbrella to beat an army of evil robots. It’s an old-school platformer that is so needed in these times when classic arcade games became such a rarity.
This is such great news also because it means that Taito could be looking at some other Taito X board games that were never released outside of the arcade like, perhaps, Chase H.Q. 2. One can hope!
Spica Adventure is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox in Spring 2024. Physical editions for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5 will also be up for pre-order on November 14, 2023.
