Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer tweeted that Microsoft and PlayStation agreed to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation. The agreement will take effect following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which could happen at any point now.
Spencer tweeted: “We look forward to a future where players globally have more choice to play their favorite games.”
No further details were given at this point so we’re still not sure whether this is a similar deal to the one seen between Microsoft and Nintendo.
Nonetheless, Microsoft President Brad Smith also commented on the new agreement: “From Day One of this acquisition, we’ve been committed to addressing the concerns of regulators, platform and game developers, and consumers. Even after we cross the finish line for this deal’s approval, we will remain focused on ensuring that Call of Duty remains available on more platforms and for more consumers than ever before.”
Microsoft made it clear that it doesn’t have financial sense to pull the game away from PlayStation platforms and Phil Spencer made an oath that Call of Duty would remain on PlayStation 5.
That being said, we still have no clue what will happen with other Activision Blizzard games but time will tell, I guess.
