Royal Albert Hall and The BBC have announced that their first-ever Gaming Prom will take place this summer as a part of their annual BBC Proms event.

Entitled Prom 21: From 8-Bit to Infinity, this show will feature the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and will take place on August 1. This will be one of 72 proms that make up this year’s event that starts in July and will last until September. Robert Ames will be the conductor and the orchestra will perform a range of iconic pieces from some of the most popular games of all time.

One confirmation we have so far is the European premiere of the score from the recently released Battlefield 2042. We’ll also get to enjoy a performance of Jessica Curry’s I Have Begun My Ascent from Dear Esther. Last but not least, the show will also include Yoko Shimomura’s work from the Kingdom Hearts series and excerpts from Kow Otani’s piece from Shadow of the Colossus.

Even though we’ve heard these soundtracks being performed live, this will be the first official Gaming Prom in BBC Proms history. The event has been going since 1895, so this is certainly a welcoming addition. The tickets will go on sale, on May 21 at 9 AM UK time and the event will also be broadcast on BBC Four on Friday, August 5. You’ll also be available to watch and listen online via the BBC Sounds app.
