Judging by the initial reactions and sales records, all the hype around Elden Ring was more than justified. As Bandai Namco just announced, the game already sold more than 25 million copies since its launch (February 25). Only two weeks passed and the sales charts are already shaking!
As it can be seen on the GSD data obtained by GamesIndustry.biz, Elden Ring is arguably the most successful “new IP launch” since Ubisoft’s The Division, a game that launched back in 2016. Given the great reception that the game is getting and FromSoftware’s previous reputation, it’s not surprising at all.
FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki issued a press statement and thanked everyone for their massive support – “I’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the entire development team. Elden Ring is based on a mythological story written by George R. R. Martin. We hope players enjoy a high level of freedom when adventuring through its vast world, exploring its many secrets, and facing up to its many threats. Thank you for your continued support.”
Bandai Namco has announced that around one million sales come from Japan while the other sales come from all over the world. PC happens to be leading the sales chart. PS5 is the runner up and the two platforms are then followed by Xbox and PS4. These astonishing numbers make Elden Ring the biggest video game launch since Call of Duty Vanguard launched in November 2021. The bar is set quite high at this point.
Elden Ring is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
