So yeah, there's this game. It's called SUPERHOT, you can download it for the PC, MAC, LINUX, and Xbox One. It's pretty incredible if you're looking for a game that doesn't just challenge your reflex and dexterity, but also challenges your grey matter too. SUPERHOT also has a story, a mind-bending story that I want to see as a film.

The more you play, the more you'll discover, the more you'll find out about just what SUPERHOT is. In many ways it's kind of like Fez, the further you go, the deeper you get, the more about just what the hell's going on is revealed and it's pretty awesome stuff, especially for me, since I totally dig that kind of thing.

What is SUPERHOT?

It's single player...

It's an experience, it's a first person shooter, and it's a lot of fun. Time moves at a crawl, you can see bullets slowly and inexorably make their way to you as they slip forwards. You move, time moves, you move fast, time kicks in fully. The motto of SUPERHOT should be slow and steady wins the fight. It's like a choreographed puzzle game, there are enemies, you can kill them in a variety of interesting ways - they explode into shattering glass-like particles. As you're killing them, they're trying to kill you, guns, baseball bats, katanas, and more get thrown into the fray.

But TIME only MOVES when YOU do.

The mind is Software...

So yeah, you rush around the many mission levels and you're going to get chopped up, ventilated, murdered, flattened or whatever else can happen to you. If you move the stick slowly, inch by inch, maintain tactical awareness and keep an eye on where the enemies are, you can become the action hero in your own adrenaline soaked, shoot-em-up, gun/sword fest drama. You become nigh on unstoppable, dodging bullets, leading enemies into fire-line traps where they blow each other away.

Finish a level, you get an editable replay of what you just did at full speed, so you look like a total badass.

Bodies are disposable...

This Hong Kong Action Movie style play works so well, and after a short while you're punching guys, taking their weapons as they fly through the air, and putting them to good use. There's a minimal interface too, so you're going to have to learn the ammo counts on the guns, or risk running out of bullets. But hey, that's OK, because as long as you're moving slowly and keeping an eye on the bad guys you can always punch a dude, steal his gun, and ventilate him and his friends with it.

Just remember, the faster the action, like picking up a weapon, or item makes time move a lot quicker.

It's probably one of the most 'meta' games I've played too. Not only is it utterly addictive, and truly interesting, it's probably one of the most innovative shooters of our time. It's ram-packed with interesting easter-eggs, story, menus that have callbacks to the 8bit days of gaming, BBS sites, and more...

Explore it all, because there's a lot of answers in that stuff.

I really like the game, it's a breath of fresh air in the shooter space, and certainly wins awards for originality. It's super stylish too, with simple, clean, good graphics, and a surprising amount of connection between weapons and their impacts. Some AAA shooters could learn from this, seriously.

It's a labour of love, a small game from a small studio who poured their hearts and souls into it. It's why I love indie gaming, why I support it, and why I can't wait to see what they do next. This studio has the potential to be the next Klei, who produced such games as Mark of the Ninja, Shank, and of course Invisible, Inc.

SUPERHOT is worth your time, effort, and money. It goes to show what a small dedicated team can achieve, with the support of Kickstarter, Steam Greenlight, and most importantly the gaming public/fans.

SUPERHOT, quite simply put is: SUPER FUN. There's an Endless Mode, and Challenges once you finish the main story - and more secrets yet to be revealed..
