Echelon review
Maximum3D has posted a review of the new game from BethSoft, Echelon. This futuristic flight sim forgoes the standard "dogfight in space" plot, and engages the player in high speed combat mere inches from the ground. The flight model is unique, the missions challenging, and the graphics are utterly amazing. Heres a snippit:
The game takes place on Rockade IV, a strange and beautiful alien planet, where the Federation is waging a war against the evil Velian rebels. Described as advanced cyborgs, the Velian enemy is threatening all of mankind, and the player assumes the role of a rookie pilot tasked with stopping the alien forces. While the plot is not exactly mind shattering, once in the cockpit of one of the more than 14 different craft, there is little time to think about frivolous things like plots. The action is fast paced, the missions difficult, and the graphics utterly amazing. This futuristic flight sim doesn't venture into space, instead it strays from the stereotypical zero-g-but-the-plane-handles-like-there-is-an-atmosphere space sim, and stays close to the ground in a variety of advanced hovercraft-like vehicles that speed across the landscape just above the scrub brush. Just like Beggar's Canyon back home...
