Tread Marks Review
This game is basically Carmageddon meets tanks on rough terrain.
This game has several modes these Race and battle. Race is where you race against other tanks over a marked course for a set number of laps. First one over the line wins obviously but different from a standard race you can pick up weapon power up to destroy or slow down your opponent and give you an better chance of wining. The second is an all out free for all where you destroy all of you opponents as often as possible while trying to escape destruction yourself. You win by being the first to achieve the required frags. You can play each of these types of games as a single race/event or as part of a league.
There are 51 tracks and 20 tanks to choose from, so that is enough to keep you occupied for a little while. The takes come in two categories and they are 1. Normal army tanks and 2. Alien liquid tanks. Each tank has it's advantages and disadvantages. Some are faster than others, some are stronger and harder to destroy so you can pick the best vehicle for the type of game you are playing. If you are racing then obviously speed is the idea but if you are battling then strength and armour is a better bet.
The gameplay was quite fluent and good fun. The weapon power ups were pretty good as well but I didn't like the fact that you could only have one power up at a time. For example if you had just picked up the minelayer and some one was coming towards you wouldn't be able to attack them because you can only lay mine not fire at other tanks. So some power ups pick up at the wrong time can land you in deep water and very venerable.
The graphics are a bit rough, but you shouldn't have a problem if you have a new enough graphics card and a reasonably fast processor. The sound was good too, especially on the first map, (called Armageddon), where the map actually shoots nukes and missiles at all the players and you are diving around the map looking for another player to waste and there are explosions happening all around you
If you like mass destruction, easy controls and lots of action then this game is for you. The idea is not original but why change a winning formula. As they say "If it ain't broke don't fix it"
