Black Myth: Wukong got a new trailer at The Game Awards, and looking at the footage, I believe this will be a game to keep an eye on.

The visuals look stunning and we can see some of the enemies that we will be facing along the way. We’ll get to fight them on the ground, up in the sky, and even underwater. Luckily, we won’t be unarmed as the footage shows glimpses of the combat, and by the looks of it, it will be quite intense.

The game is inspired by the 1592 Chinese fantasy novel Journey to the West. While everything looks incredibly promising at the moment, we also have a flavor of controversy in the form of accusations of sexism at Game Science.

As IGN reported: “Several posts have surfaced from Chinese social media site Weibo, written by individuals from the studio, that contain multiple references to genitalia and sexual innuendos.” We’ve also seen “recruitment posters by the studio, produced in 2015, which featured images and headlines that point to a culture of ingrained sexism in Game Science.”

Nonetheless, despite the backlash from a part of the community, that hasn’t stopped the game from showing up at The Game Awards and building up hype ahead of release next year.

Black Myth: Wukong is coming PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on August 20, 2024. You can check out the trailer below (thank you, IGN):
