Starfield preloads are now live for Xbox and Windows players as the game has just gone gold and the development is effectively complete. People on the mentioned platforms can download the pre-release right now, but the game will be truly ready to play on September 6 (or September 1, if you’re an early-access player). Sadly, though, Steam players will have to wait until August 30 to preload their copies of the game.

In case you’ve purchased the Premium Edition or Constellation Edition physically or digitally, you’ll get access to the game on September 1. The studio sure does a great job at hyping the whole thing, and the Xbox Twitter page says their hand is moving “closer to [the] giant LAUNCH button.”

Starfield was originally released on November 11, 2002, but it got pushed back by almost a year. “We know you’ve waited a long time to play something new from us,” said director Todd Howard after announcing the release date in a trailer. “Believe it or not, we’re kind of the same.”

He also added: “We really just can’t wait for you all to play it.” We’re getting closer and closer to that moment, and indeed, I can’t wait to try the game myself.

Starfield is coming to Xbox and PC on September 6, 2023.
