Xbox head Phil Spencer showed up during the latest Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest along with the XIV director and producer Naoki Yoshida and announced the news to the auditorium. The game will have 4K support on Xbox Series X and will sport faster loading times as well. The open beta is scheduled for 2024, during the 6.5X patch cycle and it will be a digital-only release.

At the moment we don’t know if the game will be hitting Xbox One as well and it seems like the last-gen console won’t have access to Square Enix’s hit MMORPG.

Spencer sees this as a “seminal moment” with the Final Fantasy team and he hopes to expand collaboration with them in the future.  Square Enix CEO Takashi Kiryu also showed up on stage, and just like Spencer, he hopes to strengthen the bonds between the company and Xbox in the coming months (and years).

Meanwhile, Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest saw the announcement of a new Downtrail expansion and 7.0 will see the players going to the New World of Tural. We’ll see a bunch of new content coming to the game and even two brand-new DPS jobs. And last but not least, the free trial will now also include the Stormblood expansion. Even with just Heavensward only, the amount of free content was already staggering, but now with Stormblood included as well……..just wow. I seriously have to renew my XIV subscription, now is the right moment.

Final Fantasy XIV is available now on PC and PlayStation.
