Konami have revealed that their 2020 game, Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban, sold more than 4 million units in Japan.

What’s staggering about this record is that the game was never released outside of its native Japan. It’s hardly surprising because Momotaro Dentetsu is an established series that started back in 1988 on the Famicom. At that point, it was produced by Hudson Soft, but after the studio went bankrupt, the assets were bought by Konami in 2012. Sadly, until this point, no Momotaro Dentetsu game was localized until this point and the franchise remained Japanese only.

4 million sales in Japan is truly an impressive record. To put things into perspective, Famitsu previously reported that one The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has a lifetime sales number of 2,208,705. And this is arguably one of the best video games ever created + we’re talking about the whole world here.

Anyway, the upcoming Momotaro Dentetsu World: Chikyuu wa Kibou de Mawatteru is a good opportunity to bring the critically acclaimed IP to the Western shores. Make it happen, Konami.
