The Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset Review

The Elder Scrolls Online originally released 4 years ago and the content is still coming strong, this is how a game should be supported long after release. Within the latest DLC offering you get to visit the Sommerset isles which is home of the Altmer or High Elves as they are more commonly known for the first time since 1994's Elder Scrolls Arena.

There are three major Islands to explore Summerset, Auridon and the mysterious Artaeum which is home to the Psijic order and only appears once every hundred years or so when there is a threat that the order is needed to deal with. Each island has a distinctive look to it and even more so when compared to the various provinces already within the elder scrolls online with idyllic vistas and gleaming spires with beautiful Altmeri architecture.

As expected you can join the Psijic order which provides you with a new skill tree and new abilities to help master time itself and I love how the developers have managed to provide powers that will help everyone regardless of the role that they play. So you can use the meditate skill to augment healing abilities or accelerate which allows you to increase movement speed and critical damage. There are many others to unlock but I will allow you to discover these yourself.

The game promises over 30 hours of quests and as the game has evolved over the years these have much better design and are a lot more interesting since the game released originally and as proof that the developers are listening to what the player base is requesting you now have the addition of Jewellery Crafting within the game.

The code that I received gave me access to the Deluxe Collector's edition and Pre-order bonuses which included

The Deluxe Content

  • The Bloodshadow Wraith Steed Mount

  • Fledgling Gryphon Pet

  • Divine Prosecution Outfit style (unique weapon and outfit stylings)

  • Psijic Scrying Talisman which allows you to simulate the effects of the Psijic orders abilities

  • House of Reveries Emote Pack which gives you 3 new emotes (Happy face, Sad Face and Ta-dah)

The Pre-Order Bonuses

  • Court of Bedlam Costume

  • Pocket Salamander Pet

  • In-game Treasure maps giving access to levelled loot caches

  • Psijic Order Crown Crate - 1 loot box on the Crown store containing Psijic Themed Mounts, Pets Costumes and More

  • Experience scrolls giving a 50% experience boost for 2 hours

  • Nightmare Senche Mount

In Summary it is nice to see a game that has evolved so much over the years due to both developer ideas and player feedback and this expansion is well worth getting and bodes well for more DLC that's on the way in the future, My only hope is that one day we get a Single player Elder Scrolls game that takes place in all of Tamriels Provinces and has the same scope story wise that the Elder Scrolls Online has.
