If you have yet to catch Bulbasaur, Chikorita, and many of the other Grass-types in Pokemon GO, you now have a 4-day window to try and catch 'em all. Niantic has announced a new special event that will make Grass-type Pokemon appear more often than usual.

The "Grass Weekend" kicks off today, May 5, and will last until May 8 PDT. Grass-type Pokemon usually appear in areas where there are lots of grass (duh), which includes parks, golf courses, hiking trails, and nature reserves. Now would be a good time to go for a picnic and catch truckloads of Grass-type Pokemon while you snack on sandwiches.

We suggest going for Exeggcute and racking up on candies to evolve it into Exeggutor, the most powerful non-legendary Grass-type Pokemon in Pokemon GO. But if you already have the coconut tree Pokemon and all the other first-gen Grass-type Pokemon, we suggest hunting for Chikorita, Bayleef, or Meganium. At 2227 Max CP, Meganium is the most powerful Grass-type of the second-gen Pokemon, right after the legendary Pokemon Celebi.

The "Grass Weekend" is the latest Pokemon GO special event where certain monsters appear more often than normal. The first such event was launched last October in celebration of Halloween, which saw the increased appearances of Ghastly, Haunter, Gengar, and several other monsters.

Pokemon GO players living in Charlotte, North Carolina in the US will also have another incentive to go out this weekend. Niantic has partnered with the Knight Foundation to hold community-based events in US towns and cities. It's a multi-year engagement, with the first event set to take place in Charlotte on May 7.

The event will see roads closed off to cars, allowing people to freely walk and ride bikes with the goal of knowing more about the city. The City of Charlotte has chosen 16 Pokestops and two Pokemon Gyms along a set route for players to visit. The Pokestops and Pokemon Gyms will be physically marked.

The event will run from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
