Barring any significant setbacks, October 21 should see the release of the highly anticipated installment in the popular first-person shooter Battlefield series: Battlefield 1. For players who have trouble keeping their excitement down at the game's impending release, they can alternatively redirect their focus to the Battlefield 1 Premium Pass.

Holders of the Premium Pass will be able to enjoy the following extras:

  • · New Operations and game modes
  • · New Elite classes and vehicles
  • · 16 new multiplayer maps
  • · 20 new weapons
  • · 14 unique dog tags
  • · 14 Battlepacks with "stand-out weapon skins" (will be delivered monthly starting November 2016)
  • · Early access to 4 planned DLC packs

The first of the aforementioned 4 DLC packs will be titled "They Shall Not Pass", which may or may not have something to do with Gandalf's popular line in The Lord of the Rings. They Shall Not Pass, which arrives in March 2017, will have the French army in tow.(Battlefield 1 features only Britain, the U.S., the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Germany, Italy and the Ottomans at launch. The omission of France is actually quite surprising, considering the role they played in the war.) The Russian army is also set to join the fray, although it's still unknown in which of the remaining 3 DLC packs they will come in. You can avail of the Premium Pass at the Battlefield 1 Origin page.

Battlefield 1 is the next main game in EA DICE's Battlefield series, succeeding the oddball Battlefield: Hardline. Following its predecessor's footsteps, Battlefield 1 also deviates away from the tried-and-tested formula of an advanced military setting. In Battlefield 1, players will be placed in the shoes of a soldier during the First World War. The decision to do so was well-received by fans eager for a new angle in FPS games. October 2016 should belong to EA, as they are also set to release Titanfall 2 on October 28. It should be a good year-end for FPS fans. Well, assuming both games don't flop.
