According to the L.A Times; Atari North America is filing for bankruptcy. The aim of the petition is to cut itself away from it's parent company Atari S.A (which used to be Infogrames) which is apparently in debt. Atari North America are looking to sell to a private investor.
It is not known at the moment who may privately purchase Atari, whoever does will have a huge back catalogue and reputation to keep.
